Dumping Hayter for this seems pointless and I am a huge fan of Sutherlands work on 24. The character of „Snake“ or „Big Boss“ hardly ever talks or even acts during the few story cutscenes there actually are. First of all, why they bothered to get Kiefer Sutherland is a mystery to me. Worse yet, even the storytelling is now barely above average level which is unforgivable in a MGS-game. So the game gives you Harder versions of old missions, these are in my opinion, filler.Subsistence Missions: You replay a mission, with no support or reflex mode and you go in with no weapons or gear.Extreme Missions: You replay a mission and the enemies are basically able to 'one shot kill' youTotal Stealth Missions: You replay a mission where being seen greets you not with an alert phase, but a game over screen.You have to pass about 3 of these filler missions to advance the story toward the end.This was my only complaint about the otherwise brilliant game.Īs a MGS-fan since the beginning I am sad having to write this about the final piece of the Kojima-helmed Metal Gear Saga, but what I didn't like about MGS-Peace Walker got amplified and multiplied beyond recognition in Metal Gear Solid V – The Phantom Pain. There was something off with this game.In the later stages of the game if feels like there is something missing.

FOB is an online aspect of resource acquisition and people from all over the world can attack it and steal. You can also build an FOB, which will further add to your resource and materials count, and also increase the amount of staff you can recruit. Each section Intel, R&D, Medical, Combat, Command, Support and more.

The base, using resources you find in the field, can be upgraded. But unlike Peace Walker you can visit your base and increase the morale of your staff. Eventually unlocking more commands you can give them, making them even more useful in the field.The game features Motherbase, as with previous game Peace Walker. Completing missions with a buddy will increase your bond level. Missions end when you leave the mission area safely.The buddy system allows for new ways to play also, You'll get D Horse from the start.

In this game you have to plan what items to take with you, choose which landing zone you want to arrive at, recon the mission area to get an idea of the enemies and their capabilities. In past games you started in the area and infiltrated a linear path. Guards will investigate sounds and glimpses of you or call for advice from their commander if they're too scared.This game focuses on a different aspect of missions. but it's when you're sneaking that the game shows off how clever it is. In this sense, being seen is not necessarily the end of the world like it was in older Metal Gear games, but the odds WILL be stacked against you.The enemies will shoot you on sight, run to cover, call for backup, flush you out of cover with grenades. If you can't eliminate the threat in that time it's flight or fight time as the whole area goes on alert. If you're not great at sneaking but want to learn, this game, like it's Prologue Ground Zeroes, has the Reflex system where you're given one last chance to neutralize an enemy who has seen you in a Slow Mo moment. If you've never given Metal Gear a chance because you don't favour stealth gameplay, this is the Metal Gear to ease you into it.You can run in and 'rambo' your way through this game if you want, and hell, it might even be more of a challenge to do it that way.
